Theory of Mind (ToM) is the cognitive capacity to attribute mental states — thoughts, beliefs, intentions, emotions — to oneself and others. It enables us to understand that others have different perspectives and to predict their behavior.
Key Functions
- •Perspective-taking — "walking in someone else's shoes"
- •Intentionality — understanding goals and motives
- •Belief attribution — knowing what others know or believe
- •Social prediction — forecasting reactions and responses
