Sensations

Raw sensory input — what we feel in the body before interpretation (interoception, proprioception, touch).

Sensations are the raw, pre-interpretive input from the body — what we feel before we label it as emotion, thought, or meaning. They include interoception (internal organs, heartbeat, breath), proprioception (body position, movement), and exteroception (touch, temperature, pressure).

Key Aspects

  • Bodily — grounded in the physical body
  • Pre-cognitive — arise before conscious interpretation
  • Foundation — emotions and thoughts are built on sensation
  • Trainable — practices like interoceptive calibration increase sensitivity

In ONDA Life

Part 1 "Interoceptive Calibration" develops the ability to feel pulsation, pressure, and internal movement. Part 11 "Interoception in Contact" uses sensations to feel one's own and others' boundaries in real-time. Sensations are the bedrock of self-awareness.

Scientific Basis

Built on: Polyvagal Theory (Porges); Psychoneuroimmunology (Ader & Cohen); neuroplasticity research.
