CSF

Cerebrospinal Fluid — the fluid that washes through brain tissue during glymphatic clearance.

CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) is the clear fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. It cushions the CNS, delivers nutrients, removes waste, and is the medium through which the glymphatic system clears metabolic debris during deep sleep.

Key Functions

  • Waste clearance — carries beta-amyloid, tau, and other metabolites out of the brain
  • Buoyancy — reduces effective brain weight
  • Chemical stability — maintains stable ionic environment for neurons

The Glymphatic Flush article describes how CSF circulation enables brain "detox" during deep sleep.
