Primary Interoception

The most fundamental layer of body sensing — awareness of heartbeat, breath, gut signals, and internal organ states.

Primary Interoception is the raw, unfiltered sensing of your body's internal state.¹ It is the connection between the brainstem and the insular cortex — the most ancient pathway of self-awareness.

Layers of Interoception

| Layer | What You Sense | Brain Region | |-------|---------------|-------------| | Primary | Heartbeat, breath rhythm, gut motility | Brainstem → Insula | | Emotional | Feelings as body sensations | Insula → Anterior Cingulate | | Reflective | Conscious body awareness | Prefrontal Cortex |

In ONDA Life

Part 1 ("I Am") focuses exclusively on primary interoception — learning to detect the most basic signals before interpreting them emotionally or cognitively. This is the "biological zero" from which all awareness emerges.

Training Primary Interoception

Practices include:

  • Heartbeat detection exercises
  • Breath observation without modification
  • Gut-feeling awareness scans
  • Temperature gradient sensing
