Allostatic Load refers to the cumulative "wear and tear" on the body that results from chronic activation of stress adaptation mechanisms. In the ONDA architecture, this term is defined as System Debt. While allostasis is the process of achieving stability through change, allostatic load is the price the biological "hardware" pays for that constant shift.
SYSTEM_LOGIC: OPERATING PRINCIPLE
Allostatic load accumulates when defense mechanisms (such as cortisol and adrenaline) fail to shut off at the appropriate time:
- •Inadequate Adaptation: The system fails to efficiently adapt to repeated stressors (social, chemical, or physical).
- •Failed Shut-off: Regulatory systems (e.g., the HPA axis) remain active even after the threat has been neutralized.
- •Resource Depletion: Constant mobilization of resources to combat stress leads to the exhaustion of metabolic and neural reserves.

STATUS: RESILIENT (Optimal)
SIGNAL: High Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and a rapid return of cortisol to baseline levels following a load.
RESULT: High antifragility, rapid recovery, and low systemic inflammation.
STATUS: HIGH_LOAD (System Strain)
SIGNAL: Decreased HRV, disrupted sleep patterns, and episodic spikes in blood pressure.
RESULT: The organism is running at high RPMs. Cognitive flexibility and immune thresholds begin to decline.
STATUS: ALLOSTATIC_OVERLOAD (System Failure)
SIGNAL: Chronically low HRV, metabolic syndrome markers, and burnout.
RESULT: "Biological Bankruptcy." Development of chronic diseases, accelerated tissue aging, and degradation of neural connectivity.
