Right Temporoparietal Junction (rTPJ)

The brain region for reading non-verbal signals and managing the mental model of others.

The right temporoparietal junction (rTPJ) is a region at the boundary of the temporal and parietal lobes. It is a key node for social cognition — particularly for understanding others' perspectives and reading non-verbal signals.

Key Functions

  • Perspective-taking — shifting attention to others' viewpoints
  • Mental model of others — representing what others think or feel
  • Non-verbal reading — body language, gaze, gesture
  • Self-other distinction — knowing where "I" ends and "you" begins

In ONDA Life

Part 11 describes the rTPJ as "a key node for reading non-verbal signals and managing the 'mental model' of others." Together with the mPFC, it enables the balance between autonomy ("I") and deep connection ("We").
