The ventral vagal (or ventral vagus) is the myelinated branch of the vagus nerve that supports the "social engagement" state. In Polyvagal Theory, it is the evolutionarily newest branch — enabling connection, safety, and calm presence.
Characteristics
- •Myelinated — fast, precise control
- •Social engagement — facial expression, voice tone, listening
- •Calm alertness — heart beats powerfully and steadily
- •Safety — the body perceives no threat
In ONDA Life
Part 5 "Smart Parasympathetic" activates the Ventral Vagus. This is a state of "calm alertness" — ready for effective dominance rather than panic. The heart beats powerfully and steadily; the brain is primed for presence.
