Ventral Vagus

The myelinated vagal branch — supports social engagement, safety, and calm alertness.

The ventral vagal (or ventral vagus) is the myelinated branch of the vagus nerve that supports the "social engagement" state. In Polyvagal Theory, it is the evolutionarily newest branch — enabling connection, safety, and calm presence.

Characteristics

  • Myelinated — fast, precise control
  • Social engagement — facial expression, voice tone, listening
  • Calm alertness — heart beats powerfully and steadily
  • Safety — the body perceives no threat

In ONDA Life

Part 5 "Smart Parasympathetic" activates the Ventral Vagus. This is a state of "calm alertness" — ready for effective dominance rather than panic. The heart beats powerfully and steadily; the brain is primed for presence.
