Myelin

The insulating sheath around neural pathways — increases signal speed. Rapid myelination = rapid skill acquisition.

Myelin is a fatty insulating sheath that wraps around axons (neural pathways). Each time you repeat a high-quality action, your brain adds more myelin to that pathway—increasing the speed of electrical signals up to 100x. Mastering a skill is essentially a process of rapid myelination.

Key Properties

  • Insulation — wraps axons like rubber around a wire
  • Speed — myelinated pathways conduct signals faster
  • Skill — "practice makes perfect" because practice adds myelin
  • Quality matters — only correct repetitions add productive myelin

In ONDA Life

Mastering Flow is a process of rapid myelination. The Neuroplasticity & Flow article details protocols for entering the Flow State—where high-quality repetitions build myelin on the right circuits. See also Basal Ganglia for habit formation.
